The reception hosted for NRIs the British High Commissioner’s residence in January 2011 was an interesting affair, especially because of the number of guests who had managed to pack themselves in the chill that made them stick together inside the room initially, but once the guests started warming up (courtesy the conversation and the drinks), the ambience suddenly changed to one of gaiety. Later some guests spilled out in the dining area too, but the hosts, ensured that everyone was well-tended to through the evening. The ambassador, Sir Richard Stagg, arrived at the bash to be greeted by a line of guests wanting to thank him for his hospitality. Among others, we spotted prominent NRIs like Rt. Hon. Baroness (Dr.)Sandip Verma, Meghnad & Kishwar Desai, Baroness Shreela Flather, Lord Karan Bilimoria, Udai Patel, Dr.. Rami Ranger, Dr. Didar Singh and many other NRI guests from UK and other countries.
Midway through the bash, many guests suddenly started moving towards the door, But we soon found out the reason for this - it was the presence of Shashi Tharoor and wife Sunanda.
Everyone was still extending New Year wishes to each other and discussing their holiday plans at this do, but when we got chatting with Shahnaz Hussain, she told us that she loves celebrating occasions like these with her loved ones, and doesn’t like heading out of the country alone. We also spotted Lady Arabella Stagg later with a few of her guests.
